ACRE's vision for
Rural Saskatchewan is a vision of diversified rural communities where
people of all ages choose to live and work together as responsible stewards
of the environment. These communities welcome and embrace change.
Saskatchewans
network of successful farms, communities and business enterprises is the
foundation of the provinces strong rural economy, which offers a
competitive business environment that ensures continued prosperity.
A network of strong,
dynamic rural communities all across Saskatchewan - communities that can
grow and prosper through sustainable rural economic development; a viable
agricultural sector that provides opportunity and prosperity for today's
and tomorrow's rural residents.
Communities where
people are secure in the knowledge that they and their children can look
forward to a bright future.

Our province enjoys
many unique advantages: abundant, inexpensive land and a clean, unspoiled
environment. We are among the most competitive jurisdictions in the world.
We have skilled, resourceful people who are committed to quality, to environmental
responsibility, and to strong community values.
Saskatchewan has what
it takes to build a vibrant rural economy and the resiliency to prosper
in a changing international marketplace.

The Action Committee
on the Rural Economy fulfills a promise made in the December 1999 Throne
Speech. ACRE consists of representative stakeholders involved in rural
development, who are committed to working with rural interest groups,
producer associations, agribusiness, government, universities and other
relevant stakeholder groups to identify opportunities for government action
to strengthen the rural economy.

ACRE represents numerous
rural interests.
The committees
diverse composition reflects the diversity of the province and the
necessity of a broad approach towards rural development. ACRE has
provided many recommendations to the province. But, ACREs work
is not done. The committee still has an important role to play in
working with government and communities to accomplish what has been
set out within the province's Strategy
for Rural Saskatchewan.
In recognition of
this, Saskatchewan has extended and renewed ACRE's mandate until March
31, 2008. This extension and renewal will allow ACRE to be the mechanism
for citizens in Saskatchewans rural communities to:
