ACRE's vision for Rural Saskatchewan is a vision of diversified rural communities where people of all ages choose to live and work together as responsible stewards of the environment. These communities welcome and embrace change.

Saskatchewan’s network of successful farms, communities and business enterprises is the foundation of the province’s strong rural economy, which offers a competitive business environment that ensures continued prosperity.

A network of strong, dynamic rural communities all across Saskatchewan - communities that can grow and prosper through sustainable rural economic development; a viable agricultural sector that provides opportunity and prosperity for today's and tomorrow's rural residents.

Communities where people are secure in the knowledge that they and their children can look forward to a bright future.

Our province enjoys many unique advantages: abundant, inexpensive land and a clean, unspoiled environment. We are among the most competitive jurisdictions in the world. We have skilled, resourceful people who are committed to quality, to environmental responsibility, and to strong community values.

Saskatchewan has what it takes to build a vibrant rural economy and the resiliency to prosper in a changing international marketplace.

The Action Committee on the Rural Economy fulfills a promise made in the December 1999 Throne Speech. ACRE consists of representative stakeholders involved in rural development, who are committed to working with rural interest groups, producer associations, agribusiness, government, universities and other relevant stakeholder groups to identify opportunities for government action to strengthen the rural economy.

ACRE represents numerous rural interests.

The committee’s diverse composition reflects the diversity of the province and the necessity of a broad approach towards rural development. ACRE has provided many recommendations to the province. But, ACRE’s work is not done. The committee still has an important role to play in working with government and communities to accomplish what has been set out within the province's Strategy for Rural Saskatchewan.

In recognition of this, Saskatchewan has extended and renewed ACRE's mandate until March 31, 2008. This extension and renewal will allow ACRE to be the mechanism for citizens in Saskatchewan’s rural communities to:

Provide feedback on A Strategy for Rural Saskatchewan: Responding to ACRE;

Engage rural Saskatchewan in ongoing dialogue on enhanced partnerships and collaboration - providing a strong voice for rural Saskatchewan to the Saskatchewan Government;

Monitor delivery of the individual actions and collective success of the rural strategy.
